Empowering people was, is and will be the main reason for existence and importance of cities
2000 years ago, today and in the future. Throughout the history, the basic duty of each city is to ensure its undisturbed operation and providing suitable services to its residents in the area of: housing, water, energy and mobility. Besides these vital areas, each city needs to develop and ensure additional important services in the areas such as education, health, economy, safety, etc., which vary depending on the specific characteristics of a city. Smart City concept has led to the design and development of the Smart City Platform (www.smartiscity.eu), which helps city leaders to manage complex city challenges in cooperation with people. However, quality decisions need to be based on knowledge and supported by quality data. The first global international standard for cities, the ISO 37120 was introduced in 2014 and will be presented at Zagreb Forum in 2016. New standard presents its opportunity of measuring and monitoring cities’ performance, enabling comparison, and promoting cooperation and mutual learning.
“The World Council on City Data and ISO 37120, the first international standard for cities, is changing the way that cities plan for a smarter, more sustainable, resilient and prosperous future through high caliber city-level data.”
We will see who will be first certified “Smart City” in Croatia and how “Smart Mayor” use Smart City platform in our region.
